Soil testing kits

Any suggestions on a good general soil testing kit(And where to buy it)!Or is it better to send a sample off to a company! It's for a small veggie garden.I'm sure it must be really low on just about everything so thought it would be good to find out for sure rather than just picking fertilizers at random and throwing them on.

Soil testing is relatively expensive I think that you'd be better off spending the money on a NPKS fertiliser with added trace elements - can't go wrong. Also composting will improve your soil. Cheers

Hills labs in Hamilton do soil testing, might be worth finding out the cost for a basic test, could be cheap in the longer term.

I'd like a bit more detail than just PH. :)

We've been putting a bit of compost in, a bit of sawdust, a bit of horse manure.First year everything grew nicely, second, third and fourth year mostly not much has grown at all.
