Lawn Rejuvenation.

My lawn got too dry over summer leaving dead(!) areas and weeds. I decided to spray with Roundup and re-sow. I'm wondering if I should dig it up, use an aeriator or dethatcher. I imagine the dead foliage and roots should act like humus, so perhaps I can top sow the low bits let it all die down and resow on top!

You'll need to loosen the top layer of soil - don't need to go too deep. But not yet! Wait till we're sure the drought's over! Later in autumn is good, before it gets too cold.

We have had a bit of rain and I would put the hose on if necessary. A dethatcher loosens to 38mm and an aeriator 70 (or so) or should I use a cultivator!

When I did mine I mowed it really low, so as to scalp the lawn, then used a dethatching rake to loosen up the soil and create grooves for the seed to settle in. I'd probably wait another month before doing it though. You want to make sure the seed doesn't dry out before germinating.
