My lawn is predominantly a soft thick grass type, but in small parts there seems to be quite a course thick grass taking over.I sprayed lawn with turfix but no success, any ideas on how to remove!

Any chance you could have a chat to your local garden centre folk!

Probably won't find a selective spray to do it. I know of some sprays but they are now either banned or you need an approved handlers cert to purchase.
Hand weeding may be your only option, a little at a time and persistence. This is what I did with my lawn, took 2 years and then on going but looked good finally.
I found it very relaxing to go out in the evening or whenever I had a few idle minutes and you can remove alot of weeds in 10 minutes with a knife.

Or, if you were to put 'weeds in lawn' in the search thingey to the left, with a search over one year, you may find something helpful there.Good luck

Just pull it out by hand, bit by bit, Most lawn weed sprays work on the principal that you are killing off the broad leaf weeds and the spray leaves the grass alone, so even though it may be a weedy grass it wont be affected. Manual removal or spray the weedy grass area withglypostae/roundup and re sow with the grass seed you want. I've tried to get a nice lawn for the last few years but have now given up after a few weed spray disasters plus having 2 dogs doesnt make it easy either

Google Haloxyfop 100.
This will eliminate (READ INSTRUCTIONS FIRST) some weeds from a turf lawn but you need to know what you have vs what you do not want

Are you sure steptoesnr, the way I read the label is that it removes grasses out of clover crops & by the list of grasses it kills I don't know what will be left in your lawn. A better option would be Nortron as this takes out Poa & Barley Grass out of ryegrass but needs to be under the control of an approved handler & certainly isn't for general sale. dibble35 makes the most sense especially if it is only small areas you're dealing with.
