Painting treated timber

I have just rebuilt some steps that were rotting, and the sides (stringers) were painted white on the outside, but just left to weather on the inside, as were the treads. I want to do the same with the new timber, but it is still exuding quite a bit of green powdery stuff (the tanalising chemicals, I presume). How is the best way to prepare the surface for painting! Wash it. maybe! Don't really want to leave it to weather for too long, as I would like to get the job finished while the weather is good.

wash with a mixture of bleach and sugar soap, let thoroughly dry. maybe a light sand, and coat it with oil based sealer primer. (zinseer coverstain is awesome) and 2 coats of your favourite top coats.

Thanks. I think I may have some sugar soap in the garage somewhere. Must do a search in the morning.

Just wait until the chemical 'smell' has gone from the timber. Then do the above. But I can't see the need for bleach and sugar soap. unless it's mouldy.
