I am not so sure if there is such a thing or more some builders are better than others. I would like recommendations please for a builder I want to deck over a grass area and create a lower deck. Thanks Sue

You want an experienced competant and honest builder who will come and do a good design/build of a deck for you? But you also used the word 'cheap'.
The two don't marry together.

Good, cheap, and quick. You can only ever get two out of those three. If he is good and cheap he wont be quick and will take forever, If he is good and quick, he wont be cheap. If he is Quick and cheap, he wont be good!

I have a two story deck with a roof on top. It cost me nothing apart from the materials! This is still a DIY group isn't it? I managed to work out how to put big beams on top of two posts by myself!

Yes. The building inspector didn't even know the best way of putting three beams on top of one post. He thought that whatever I did would be OK. I have used steel angles with high tension bolts.

Ask around for recommendations. I have always found that the best way to get a good tradesman, And not all cheap tradesmen are crap. Have had brilliant ones who didn't charge a fortune.
