Who plants direct from pot to ground & who breaks up roots before planting?

I plant direct from pot.

Same here. I soak the pot in water first.

I soak pot in water first then lightly tease out the roots on the bottom, if there are any, and plant.

It depends on how root bound the plant is. I planted some today that had been in their pot far too long and needed a good soak and the roots separating a bit

And I cut off roots that are too long. They all survive.

Depends entirely on the plant in question. Vege seedlings straight into the ground without disturbance. Shrubs and trees from a nursery can be fairly pot bound at times and if badly so I put vertical cuts down the sides of the root mass to prevent root girdling as the tree grows. The exception is for avocados which should have the absolute minimum of root disturbance to prevent promotion of phytophthora root rot.
