Oven and some power switches have stopped working

catdog68, Apr 22, 6:25pm
Making scones today, the oven was going but at some point it stopped working (no scones sadly) and then I noticed we had no internet connection and the power to the tv was not working. Husband checked all the fuses in the fuse box and no circuit breakers had tripped but he did turn them on and off, so can't figure out the problem. Were able to get internet back on as only a few power switches are not working, so we got an extension cord out and used a plug that is working. Any ideas as to what the problem may be. Will have to get an electrician out tomorrow as didn't want to call one out today being Sunday and all!

If you happen to have a 2 phase power cable connection from the road it might be that you have lost 1 of the phases. hence only half your house working. If its that your electrician will have to call the local power company to replace whats commonly known as the "pole fuse".

Extension cord and takeaway is cheaper than an electrician on a Sunday.

plenty proving you wrong today.
We wanted to install a hot tub. Found out we only had two phase power. The way round it was that the stove had to be re-wired so that it had an off/on switch that switched the power to the hot tub. Meaning we couldn't have the stove and the hot tub using power at the same time.
I thought all houses were two phase unless especially requested by the owner. WE were given the option of three phase, never thought we'd need it as it was suggested the only reason anyone would need it would be if they were going to use a welder. THAT was before the advent of hot tubs.
It would have better to go for the three phase in the first place

Are there additional line charges for 2 phase as there are for 3?

daves01, Apr 24, 5:34pm
Did you get it sorted and what was the outcome?

No, when I lived in a very small country town it was used as a means of balancing supply without heavier duty lines.
The oven was on one phase and the hotwater heater ( the other high demand item) was on the second phase, the third wire from the pole was the return.

We had a rental with 2 phases , I dont recall there being an additional charge.
