Ruscus - Green Plant

ruie, Mar 6, 11:27pm
I am wanting to source a green, hard leaved plant called 'Ruscus'. I just love its foliage. I have tried local nurseries only to be told that this plant is commercially grown for florists & difficult to find in nurseries. Doe anyone have this plant growing in their garden or know where I might be able to source it. I'd be grateful of any help. Pic shows stems of Ruscus foliage.

Try googling Ruscus and see what you come up with

So what do you want this plant for. home garden or commercial purposes. I'm pretty sure i can lay my hands on some. May even be able to get some self sown seedlings. Cannot really understand why florists have a monopoly on it as it is very self seeding.

Maybe Rucsus aculeatus, common name Butchers Broom, sorry but been a very long time since I knew these things. Call it Alzhiemers.

I'm wanting if for our home garden. I love having fresh flowers in the house & I'm always scratching round the garden looking for foliage. I came across this greenery recently in my mum's funeral flowers & asked the florist what it was. It lasts up to 6 weeks in vases so would love to grow some. Would so appreciate your help :)

It is ruscus hypophyllum (spineless Butcher's Broom) you are after, not aculeatus (spiny Butcher's Broom).

If you've still got those stems in the photo, have a go at using them for cuttings to grow your own plants
