Cane furniture

In the garage I have found some old cane furniture, coffee table and plant stand, I have given them a wash, but the cane looks so dry, do you think I could now rub cooking oil on them or is this a no no. Thank you.

I wouldn't put cooking oil on them. It would go tacky and attract more dust. Cooking oil would also likely harbour bacteria and could increase chance of any mould spores growing. Same reason why you don't use it to put on chopping boards. (Use mineral oil for that or specially formulated oils).
You'd be better off giving the cane a wash with soapy water and a brush then spray on a varnish or paint. There are water based poly's now that are quite good. If you paint, try get a latex paint as cane moves and ordinary paint would end up flaking.

Use deck oil. Several colours available, it contains a mould and fungus inhibiter and an UV inhibitor.
Use and old empty household trigger spray bottle to apply.

Consider beeswax.
