^^This^^ plus the original was a large style mortice latch with a 70mm backset. The new is a tubular latch with a 60mm backset. Wait until the job is complete and judge it then.
Having said that, I think he could have done better.

^^^^^^
This, obviously he ran out of time, bogged up the door & stile, needs to be sanded then check end result.
Also, there maybe a budget with HNZ dwellings . Only the contractor or his office know,so let the bloke complete it all, yes,it looks s. y but so have plenty of jobs that I have done during reconstruction. The END result is all that matters

Does it shut well, no rattles when close?

penny-trader, Nov 19, 9:16am
OK, cool. Thanks

penny-trader, Nov 19, 9:19am
Cool, sounds like the plan. Thank you

penny-trader, Nov 19, 9:22am
Ummm well no it doesnt shut well but no rattle lol. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

That's a dogs breakfast. Even if it was a temporary fix, you wouldn't slap random fill in until the correct mortise is fitted.

Hell, if that's what professional work looks like I should change jobs and fit locks. I've hung a fare few doors and changed a number of locks on my own places and that's a mess regardless. Bog? . The first thing I would have done is cut some wood blocks, glue in to a perfect fit then come back another day and fit a new lock.
Regardless finished or not that's a mess may as well just put a gate latch on there would have looked 10 times better

maybe the guy only had 10 mins to do the job as the op said they had to go out.
There is always 2 sides to a story and we have only heard 1 side.

ayjay1, Nov 20, 8:10am
Well let him come back and finish it before you pass judgement. You say that you know nothing about replacing a door handle so you should keep your opinion to your self.
He ran out of time and wasn't able to finish the job! If he comes back the he will make to look good. At least the door can be locked.

biddy6, Nov 20, 6:57pm
what happened?

stevo2, Nov 21, 3:38am

jmma, Nov 21, 3:58am

stevo2, Nov 30, 4:53am
We'll never fid out.

johotech, Nov 30, 6:00am
HNZ contractor - probably hasn't been back yet.

nukhelenc, Nov 30, 10:53am
I think everyone needs to make more assumptions.
Hes been back?.
The OP didn't want to say any-more?
The office refused to let him go back?
He just didn't wanna go back after the office was emailed?
His work was so scabby he got the flick?
Hes got too many other houses to attend?
The job is so small its not worth the time?
He ran out of pva and little blocks of wood in his wagon?
Ran out of bog?
Lost his file?
forgot the house address?
Wasn't making enough and ran out of gas?
The person living in the house asked for him not to come back?
The person living in the house is not ever home to make a time?
Just hasn't been back?
What ever?

snoopy221, Nov 30, 11:24am
Sheesh when one uses a drop/sag when overfilled fiberglass filler when one is going from an old imperial large to a later metric smaller lock.
Simply applying some filler and allowing it to set as a base to build on?
stevo2 has got it right-nowadayzz the old time and money and build wood blocks-is redrill bog set rebog no more gaps paint done.

stevo2, Nov 30, 4:44pm
Or-
The job has been completed, it looks good but the OP is to embarrassed to come back here and admit they may have jumped the gun and pre-judged a 1/2 finished job.

hammer23, Nov 30, 10:36pm
or as one famous tradie said, only fools and children find fault in a job before it is finished.
And my words of wisdom are. When you pack up at the end of the day ,don't leave your level out for the owner to play with after hours

nitpnz, Dec 1, 1:06am
Lol, OP last logged in on the 23rd of November

zak410, Dec 1, 3:27am
