how do i treat wood borer in an old chest of draws .i am going to repolish thanks

soak it in turps. keep brushing on to saturate wood. let dry a long time

In addition to brushing on either Turps or Kero, cover the chest with an old tarpoline to allow it really fumigate

If you mean can you coat over with Polyuethane, yes, you can. A mineral based poly as opposed to a water based poly will be better.
Staining will be fine and a spray on type clear lacquer will also be ok as long as the turps or kero is totally dry. The remaining vapours trapped in the wood can cause problems for spray on laquer.
