If you mean can you coat over with Polyuethane, yes, you can. A mineral based poly as opposed to a water based poly will be better. Staining will be fine and a spray on type clear lacquer will also be ok as long as the turps or kero is totally dry. The remaining vapours trapped in the wood can cause problems for spray on laquer.
