Smell from Toilet - on septic system

bsj02, Jan 12, 9:18am
We have a new septic system (only 3 weeks old) and there is a smell coming from the toilet room sometimes but not others (its a fishy smell). It's hard to pinpoint where exactly its coming from and it goes as quickly as it appears. Any ideas please?

It is possible that whoever installed your new septic tank chucked a couple of rotting fish in there to get it "started". Just hope that the fish they used had the right sort of bacteria that your tank needed. Suggest you talk to whoever installed you tank and also the tank manufacturer as they will tell you what you need to know as systems today vary in operation compared to the basic tanks that have been around since the year dot.

Im not sure, it doesnt seem to be actually coming out of the toilet its just in the air somehow, can also be smelt outside

Could it be the glue used on the plastic pipes? Probably fade away over time?

Ring the company that put it in for you . Sounds like the first point of call.

Check your light fittings. the light end of things, not switch end. We had a terrible fishy smell in a couple of classrooms at the school I was at. Turned out to be light fittings once they got warmed up.

Flush some 'bokashi zing''down your toilet, it will start the correct microbial process and prevent foul odours

could be the connections are leaking under ground and the smell is seeping up through the soil .

After having a good sniff around today the smell seems the strongest around the base of the toilet. there is no leaking water or anything but that is where the smell seems to be at the moment

You need a ping pong ball in the toilet pan and instruct your males what to aim at.
