No more LPG Bottles

Again?. I think the Greens tried that with little success.

oh_hunnihunni, Feb 4, 3:09am
Charcoal can burn so hot that it is used in the steel industry. There is a strong argument for banning the stuff too, as the Amazon basin hosts a large number of charcoal producers who not only use local slave labour to work the kilns, but the source is of course the trees we desperately need standing.

I am surprised that isn't another item on the climate change report. 😁

oh_hunnihunni, Feb 4, 3:12am
We need thick skins to deal with the thick heads in here! Still, it is good for a laugh, don't let it get to you jojo, we have all been there.

oh_hunnihunni, Feb 4, 3:14am
Funny thing is though, with our widespread national water shortages, and the readily available reasonably priced low flow shower heads, you'd think it would be a no brainer for anyone with half an ounce of commonsense.

tygertung, Feb 4, 4:14am
The problem is it is almost impossible to get any shower heads in NZ which are flowing 4.5 L per minute or less. Who wants to waste money on hot water?

joanie32, Feb 4, 4:28am
Ban relatively clean burning LPG

In favour of burning much more dirty coal to generate electricity

That is the reality of what is being proposed

gunna-1, Feb 4, 4:36am
Yep the water and land should be tested around the areas of excess coal burning other plants will need to do to keep up with demand, electricity demand will go up = more coal burning, moreover should this horrible stuff be taken out of the drinking water by filter by the councils or maby subsidize water filters for everyone we might be needing them, only after serrious cuts in other areas though.

fibertrix, Feb 4, 4:40am
Nope! They want to get rid of anything that burns coal too. This after having squashed a proposal for a hydro power plant in Westland.

Charcoal or electricity will not do a decent Chinese stir-fry, only gas has the tempatures needed for a stir-fry

oh_hunnihunni, Feb 4, 6:51am
Depends a bit on the surfaces involved I think.

And the cook.

After all, the Chinese didn't always have gas cookers.

oh_hunnihunni, Feb 4, 6:52am
Frankly, if we don't we will have more homelessness, more poverty, and one heck of a lot more hunger.

oh_hunnihunni, Feb 4, 6:53am
Wouldn't that be a mixer issue?

rua69, Feb 4, 8:44am
The world’s had 30+ years of warnings to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and yet they’ve only increased. There’s something fitting about bbq-ing ourselves to our doom.

trade4us2, Feb 4, 9:11am
Why do you think that greenhouse gas emissions change the climate significantly? Who have you been listening to? The Greens?

sooperdoopa, Feb 4, 8:41pm
Induction wok hobs are supposedly pretty good (and much more efficient use of energy compared to gas too)

moby, Feb 4, 8:56pm
Any curtailment of gas usage will look like a red rag to the electricity cartel bulls. There is no limits to their avarice.

alston, Feb 4, 10:27pm
Message from Powerswitch. Sounds good but if you notice they give no indication of anything to supersede my current gas usage. Just words, again!

You signed up to Powerswitch with a gas connection, so we thought you might want to hear the latest news. The Climate Commission is making a recommendation for no new gas connections from 2025 in its draft plan for cutting the country’s emissions. If this is adopted into policy there will be impacts on New Zealand households.

What does this mean for me?

If you’ve already got gas in your home, rest assured, you don’t need to rip out your hobs. As products come up for replacement, you might want to consider going down a different route. If you’re weighing up a new connection or looking to install a new water heater, gas cooking, or fixed heating, it could be worth thinking twice. There’s a ban on new gas exploration already in place, and uncertainty around the future of gas in New Zealand, so it’s not worth investing thousands on something that may not go the distance. "

3tomany, Feb 5, 12:01am
I buy the one with the most flow i can get. Who wants to have a pathetic shower.

gennie, Feb 6, 6:09am
Some extremely impractical recommendations in that report.
Let's put it in terms of achievability by the labour govt - the kiwibuild promise of 100 000 houses made 4 years ago of which 1500 had been built by the election last year. Result! (Fist pump!) (While ignoring that many of these houses were started under the previous govt.)
NZ has over 4 million cars of which approximately 17000 are electric - it has taken 5 years to go from 500 EV to 17000 (which includes hybrids) EV. Somehow in about 14 years this will go over 4 million (with no hybrids)? That's over 285000 a year on average including 285000 are sold THIS year, also bearing in mind that in 2019 total new vehicle sales was 160 000. I think we would be doing extremely well if we actually doubled the number of EV/hybrids this year to 34000. This is a long way from 285000. Not to mention that new EVs are about double the price of petrol cars - not sure if the govt will put a 50% subsidy on them so maybe car owning will be for the wealthy only. Also not mentioned the total lack of infrastructure to support EVs. Or that doesn't include trucks.
Yeah, labours got this.

diddlypop, Feb 6, 10:55am
That's not all Annie. What about no gas for motor homes, the dryers at Fonterra, boats, caravans. And let us not forget that crematoriums use gas. Will cremations be a thing of the past?

joanie32, Feb 6, 11:09pm
Ms ardern cooking a barbecue this morning in Waitangi

Has no one told her she destroying the planet?

oh_hunnihunni, Feb 6, 11:24pm
You first.

elect70, Feb 7, 11:18pm
Many areas have total fire bans in summer & that includes charcoal BBQs so without gas you wont be having any BBQs. But it will never happen its just virtue signals like all the rest of Labs big ideas with no practical alternative

5425, Feb 8, 4:53am
where will all this newly needed electricity come from .?

they have no idea .

trade4us2, Feb 8, 7:27am
We vote out the Greens and then we can build more hydro plants and waste to electricity and natural gas plants. The Greens always object to those.
