Blond friends car was acting up. She had only had it a week. It seemed to run out of guts intermittently. Didn't matter if she pushed the accelerator to the floor, the car had no zoom. After telling her husband the new car was a dud, he took it for a test drive to see what the problem was, before taking it into the workshop. The moral of the story, check that the floor mat isnt bunched and wedged under the accelerator.

when laying a concrete path make sure all toddlers are not around, they can sure make a lot of work when they run the full length to say Hi.

never put a fence running along side of a concrete retainer. And hit your thunb with the hammer. Thus having two weeks on ACC while you are on holiday. (Hubby did it, not me)

when replacing the valve in your topliss shower mixer,be aware that when you remove the retaining clip the valve, spring and cap may shoot out irretrievably into the wall necessitating a trip to the plumbers merchants. When re-installing your newly acquired componants, don't drop the retaining clip into the wall cavity either, unless you like going down to the plumbers merchants sheepishly for the second time in an hour!

Make sure you lock away, or remove the battery from, your new battery operated drill when your grandkids come to stay - or lots of holes will magically appear in windowsills, your antique china cabinet, and , last, but by no means least, the tractor tyres, while you're milking, or otherwise occupied, and your own children are not paying attention.

When rehanging the hammock between the trees, having previoulsy brought it inside for protection from the elements - ensure the caribenas on BOTH ends are secured before leaping on for an enthusiatic swing! This is most important, especially in front of your teens - who will of course then have even more ammunition (after picking themselves up from rolling around on the grass in hysterical laughter) for calling you a "try hard"!

Tip when selling your house:
While having the fire going in winter makes a house nice and cosy for an open home it is not a good idea to vacuum up stray embers and ash from the hearth minutes before people start arriving - the bag in the vacuum is likely to catch fire and the smell of smokey dust will quickly pollute your entire home.

When your cat has caught a medium sized rat and while playing with it lets it run under the log burner, let nature takes its course. The rat will try to come back out and the cat will get it then.

Do not sucumb to the pitiful looks your cat is giving you and start dismantling the logburner only to find half and hour later that thos side panel are what supports it, the shifted weight is what is making the wetback pipes leak at the joints. and the rat is now in a recess created by welder!

Shifted it back enough to stop the leak. Will reassemble tonight.

On a sunny day when you're drilling holes to screw things together, don't leave the container of screws in the hot sun while you drill. You stick your hand in the hot container and .ouch!Metal gets hot doesn't it!

Loosening soil with a very heavy crow bar (to dig holes). Struck underground water pipe. Buggar. Struck 2 (side by side). Buggar. One was sewerage pipe. Mate called on for repairs. Repaired. Leaks next day. Buggar. Mate comes back and repairs. No more leaks. Filled in holes.later that day blardy dog is licking my face and ears and blardy wife tells me that dog had been at the piece of pipe that I'd left at the corner of the house. "which pipe"."that cut off bit" she said.BUGGAAAR!The sewerage pipe! The little tart (dog) had been 'LICKING' the filthy, dirty, disgusting pipe, then came and shared it with me. *dry retching* as I type this! note to self. Use dog as 'fill' when furthur digging requested by blardy wife.

BY the way, is loss of power and smoke rising out of the body a bad sign for an electric power drill!

Don't be disappointed when your $4500 stainless steel sculpture is coveredin rust. It's not the stainless crowd, but the dick-arse creator (me) that decided to brush finish with a steel brush (not stainless) in effect, smearing a film of rusty steel over the lovely stainless finish. Yep, not a lot of money earnt in that commission, except for a bloody good lesson learnt the hard way.

Don't take the washer out of the toilet cistern, then days later(before washer and lid are put back) decide you want to flush the toilet. Don't forget about there being no washer, and turn the tap back on at the wall. Or you'll have a fountain of water gushing from the cistern onto the ceiling, window, and running down the walls ;)

Yeap, might be time for a new one soon!

And here is my latest mistake: when you are moving the letterbox post over to make way for a new retaining wall, make sure the lawnmover will fit between the wall & the letterbox or you will have a 400mm wide patch of lawn that the mower won't reach between!

Grrr. nothing worse than breaking out the weed-whacker every time you mow the lawns just to keep this small patch tidy, I will learn from that one.

dgluved, Dec 9, 4:01pm
and don't ever buy drill bits from the $2.00 shop. They unwind.

sooby, Dec 9, 9:50pm
ditto cheap masonary bits from Bunnings - they just bend!

I don't know why I keep going back there - too much Scottish blood in me perhaps.

Well I have just DONE it ! Dont mix paints if you cant read the BBBB label,
Trying to give a small (thank the Lord) concrete floor a tidy up and was looking for the durapave paint we have used in previous situations, well they were both grey ! but there wasnt enough so I mixed them and stirred and stirred and stirred it had to be ok but seemed terribly thick when I started to paint, and the tin did say clean up in water soooooooo I added a small amount of H2o ! it was immediately obvious there was something horribly wrong, but since I had started I had to finish off a portion.
Hopefully it wont take too long to scrape it off ! oil and water just don't mix darn it.
