It takes years for this crap to start breaking down in the soil.It has been banned from use by many commercial growers in Canada and the States because it is causing cancer and birth defects. But hey - I'd rather be paranoid and alive - More fool you!

Oxalis has a mother bulb with tiny little bulbils around the mother bulb, when you spray with glysophate or death to oxalis you do kill the main bulb but more often than not the baby bulbs are partially detached and unaffected so you have to spray again when the baby bulbs start growing foliage you should get ontop of it within a season and death to oxalis does not harm other plants unlike glysophate. TJMC there are alot of chemicals more harmful than death to oxalis or glysophate,in our food such as garlic and chicken is bleached prior to sale, if I stopped and thought about every wrong chemical in my food, cosmetics, pharmacy drugs, housing insulation, memoryfoam beds, house paints, we all would be paranoid consumers by now.

It is the leaves that feed the bulbs. If you can't dig the bulbs out just make sure you continuously pull the leaves and eventually it will starve the bulbs. I tried Death to Oxalis but it only kills the leaves, so pulling the leaves are the cheaper option. Not easy to get rid of it unless you are very determined to bet it. I now just make sure that in that one part of my garden it is planted very full with no dirt showing so I can't see it.Out of sight, out of mind.

When I moved in to my present place, it was oxalis everywhere and I tried to get rid of it but no it kept coming back so I just live with it now.

This is what I do on the premise that the bulbs cannot survive if they have no leaves to 'feed' them.I am still working on total eradication but am well on the way.

Thanks for all the ideas in this thread :-) We moved in May and this spring has bought up all the horrible persistant weeds the previous owners threw newspaper and barkchip over to hide when we purchased (looked good at the time) I discovered some oxalis yesterday and is too close to other plants to dig out. I will persist with removing tops and spraying with baking soda paste. Fingers crossed!

tjmc, I bet you own a carbon monoxide producing vehicle and pollute the atmosphere everywhere you drive with carcinogens proven to be harmful to you and yours. It's OK for you to pollute with carbon monoxide but wrong for me to use glyphosate. Sounds like selective paranoia to me!
