as the "K" class was only built up to 1931 it is before the sub that i mentioned.

For that to be relevant, are they still the same after all these years?

And the fact in slow air movement of housing will affect a lot of inhabitants.

My father was a submariner during WW2 including on the most famous one - Seraph ("The man that never was"). He was in the engine room.
The air must have been terrible . . . he died aged 95.

Anyone who doesn't get up at 2am to put a log on the fire to ensure it's still going at 6am isn't really trying.

If that was the case, we wouldn't have all these dead rivers, and sick water.

If we remove all the humans, you would be hard pressed to find a sign we were even there in a thousand years. In ten thousand years there would be no sign, unless you were to dig.

Apart from all the extinctions and polluted sites.

You need to get over yourself. Next time the Taupo caldera goes off, it will likely make the entire North Island uninhabitable for quite a while.
There have been at least five major extinctions where most species alive at the time disappeared. There could be another one tomorrow. I don't condone trashing of the environment, but it's important to keep things in perspective.

I don't live in the North Island.
It is important to keep things in perspective and worry about the things we can control and not worry about the ones we can't.
I'm not going to worry about volcanoes as I have no influence over them, however I can try to reduce my personal impact to the environment as I have children and I care about the world they are going to have to live in.
Smog is real, try living in Christchurch in the 90s before they bought in the clean air regs.
We are talking about particulate matter here, not CO2.

Yes, didn't you read what I've written above?
Every attempt we make to reduce the emissions in this country is negated by China. They are now producing more greenhouse gases than all of the developed nations combined, and their emissions are going up rapidly. The best thing people can do to help the environment is buy locally, even if it is more expensive.

Storing the heat from the burner is the key . Until recently , the inane rules written by the Ministry made it near impossible to market a burner which could store the heat effectively . "Thermal efficiency" was the kicker . 65% of the heat from the burner had to go into the room the burner sat , while the burner was running .
There were far cleaner and more efficient burners on the market overseas , but the stupid rules here excluded them from being certified . The Soapstone was a classic example .
I had an ECan manager visit , looking for ideas to improve air quality . I pointed out a few issues and took the piss out the teams writing the rules . She defended them saying they were experts . I asked her if she liked how hot it was inside (middle of winter) , to which she she "yeah , but I didnt notice any smoke from your chimney as I came up the drive" . When I explained that the burner hadnt been going since the previous night , she couldnt believe it . At that point I showed her the 320Kg of nightstore bricks sitting on the burners cooktop , still feeding heat into the room . "What a great idea ! , why dont we build burners like this ?" Because the tards you have writing the rules make it impossible , this burner is "non compliant" . She had no way back from that lol
Manufacturers have still not focused on storage . instead they chase the quick $

According to ECan , our air has improved out of sight . so much so that that they no longer appear to be giving access to the monitor data in StAlbans . Focusing solely on Woolston .
In reality , much of the air is no better , or maybe even worse than it was pre EQ's . How you may ask ?
Smoke Nazis . focusing their efforts upwind of the station . Not hard to fudge the levels when there are only two sample points .
Hopefully the Ministry sees thru ECans trickery and forced them into action , being the limitation of issuing further consents to discharge to air for industry
It's all about industry and $$ . take from Peter to pay Paul . Removing log burners and replace them with more harmful industrial emissions . search the MfE website "offsets"
Their management of the air mirrors that of our water . and it's obvious whats going on there

Thanks all. I am in a smaller town, top of a hill and very high wind zone. My takeaway is that it should be OK occasionally as long as I again go to full power when restarting to clear everything out. I agree with the nightstore comments. Much more of a "thing" in the UK. I have tried a few DIY ideas here but there are always space constraints of course. 320kg of bricks on a burner must be quite a sight!
