What do u call plug on end caravan external power

karmae, Jan 29, 1:47pm
What do u call the plugs on end of a cable that was used to get power to caravan. Do they have a particular name?
When we went to camp grounds many years ago, father use to plug a cable from caravan into box provided by camp ground for power.
Both ends are heavy grey metal like plugs, think they were suppose to be water proof.

gre meta

thanks, trying to clear out all the things I've accumulated from relatives that I will never use. Might have to stop now too hot!

Metal ones might not be legal now. All are plastic now.

Thanks hope someone cam confirm this.

Metal reyrolle plugs and sockets are illegal and no longer able to be used.,

pv-12, Jan 29, 7:42pm
IEC 60309 9h (Blue 16 Amp) is the common type used in NZ

rohoman, Jan 29, 8:09pm
The plugs and sockets are commonly known as 16 A Ceeform.

Chalkie51 is correct. All that metal Reyrolle stuff is illegal now. I still see people trying to sell it on here though. Obviously they're not aware.

thats not a 240 volt plug, thats a 12/24v, used for trailer or caravan, marker, stop, turn signal lights, still in common use today on commercial trucks and large trailers, can buy them at most repco, supercheap, not used so often now on cars and trailers,, they ( private vehicles) use the aussie flat 7 pin

skin1235, Jan 29, 10:25pm
I think you may be confused, father would never have plugged a plug like that into any camping site power box - although often those plugs have an auxilliary pole wired in live so you can run a couple of 12v lights in a caravan - or the back of a covered truck

dig it back out of the bin, its still worth at least $10 to anyone who uses them, the male plug ( work it out lol) often gets dragged along the road and needs replacing
have you both parts or just the cable end - the base with the cover on it was often screwed just under the back number plate on cars

Just go to your local electrical wholesaler, like Corys, and the nice person at the counter will point you in the right direction. you can purchase
a) just the carvan end socket
b) just the camp site end plug
c) a kit with both the above
d) a fully built up cable
e) just the cable by the metre.
f) an adaptor cable to permit you to connect your carvan cable to an ordinary household power point.

Just to clarify as I used pic off net and it may not be the same, I finally got round to taking a photo of actual items before I chuck out.
I should have looked before, inside they all say Reyrolle 15 amp or 20amp
As above says illegal now, so no point cleaning for photo.
But thanks all for yr help

Yep, those are the ones.
Those cables are all worth some dollars at the scrap metal dealer.
