I can receive adsl internet on it, but not phone line,

I did have a wall regibbed and it was put back on but if a wire was broken I'd assume I'd get no internet as well?

Is there anything I can look at myself? If not who do I call? It's prob not the phone providers problem due to the work being done there.

Sometimes poorly connected wiring will cause that. You get ADSL, but not phone. Take cover off wall jackpoint and check that wires have been pushed FIRMLY into their respective slots. There's a special took for this, but you can improvise with a needle.
If that doesn't fix it, then it could be a line fault elsewhere and you will need to call faults.

Thanks. I just realised too a week or so ago we had the power pole replaced with a new one, so assume phone wires put onto thst. so could be a fault there too?

So if I can't see anything obvious not sure who's fault it is ans who to call. I don't want to call someone from the provider to find it was my builder, nor do I want to get someone private to find it could have been fixed free under faults!

I did briefly try and get jackpoint cover off but no luck but will try again. We have phone punch tool at work for putting phone wires into 110 frames . would thst be the same? Two diff tools on it , but we just use the 110 end thst punches and cuts wires!

Thanks

The two screws in jackpoint spin around but don’t come out so can’t get cover off :-(

zak410, Feb 24, 5:03pm
Pull the cover as well while unscrewing.

As for your fault, do you know if you pay a small monthly fee to your internet provider for line maintenance inside your propriety ? Some providers charge for that.

christin, Feb 24, 5:20pm
I did pull the cover. Came out a bit more but still not completely.

I suspect I do have wiring maintenance as I have had a fault in the jackpoint fixed free before, but just worried if I call them and it's the builders fault they'll charge way more than if I called someone else?

If you have the wiring mtce fee on your phone account then i think that covers any faults with your wiring. AFAIK they dont care who caused it they just fix it.

christin, Feb 24, 7:23pm
Awesome. Thanks. I might call them on Monday.

My brother is coming around possibly tomorrow and he knows a bit more than me re jackpoints so may wait and try him first. I have internet which is the main thing.,,, would be worse the other way around :-)

gabbysnana, Feb 27, 8:28am
i ummed and arred on this very thing, then just chopped all the phone jacks off in the wall. Regibbed. Went with skinny wifi at $39 a month for 60g. Mobile for phone.

I have people overseas and elderly people here who general won't or don't ring cell phones,

Also the fact I tend to keep my cell phone near my bag, as it's a work one so don't forget in the morning and can't hear through our house like multiple handsets. Longish house, also battery not great in cell

No luck getting screws out, get so far then no further,,,,,

zak410, Feb 27, 7:29pm
Are the screws out enough so you can get the heads with some pliers ? then pull while unscrewing ?

..pip.., Feb 27, 7:30pm
Nope they do. We have paid that $5 fee every month for 15 years. Our phone stopped working and Spark said if they find out it's not their fault it will cost us $180. I told them to cram it and have gone to Naked broadband instead

eddienz, Feb 27, 11:30pm
did phone work on it before you gibed?
if there wasnt one there before it could be a adsl jack that has a spliter installed

christin, Feb 28, 5:46am
Got someone to look at yesterday. They couldn't get screws out either. Well got one, not the other, despite pliers etc.

Had to force it off, will buy a new one. But all wires looked intact. Punched them back on and nothing!

Spoke to builder he said he specifically avoided screws where wires were,

The phone was working before the gib. But the power pole was changed in our driveway around same time so unsure if working after that.

Put a multimeter on it, if no 48 volt (the lines are provisioned so that they can be used to make emergency call) then call ISP who obviously send Chorus.

christin, Feb 28, 7:33am
will try and remember to take multimeter home from work. dont have one at home.

def no emergency calls can be made on this one!

blueviking, Feb 28, 7:36am
You don't have sky and the old jack point they used to install? If you don't have a wifi capable box, then you have to use the jackpoint. If you plug into this jack point, all your phones will stop working. It's what happened to my phones.Internet still worked.

kiwimade64, Feb 28, 7:54am
It covers you to the door, if the fault inside is 'yours', then you pay. We got caught out on this a few years ago when a mouse chewed the wire. The Chorus guy was lovely and replaced something else as well so we didn't have to pay in the end.

christin, Feb 28, 4:40pm
Nope. No sky. Just one jackpoint in house, and phone plugged straight into it gets no dial tone. Plain new corded phone tried in case problem was my phones but no. Just silence

christin, Feb 28, 4:42pm
I’ve had the jackpoint inside fixed free before. Nothing I did but was still inside house.

kiwimade64, Feb 28, 9:03pm
hmmmm thanks for that :) My comment was based on our experience and what the Chorus chap told us.

androth2, Feb 28, 9:56pm
I had the same ,no phone but internet. It was a broken wire outside on the end of the aerial cable. If you have a multimeter check there is 50 DC on the wires .if not the fault is further away

christin, Feb 28, 10:00pm
If it's my builders fault gonna cost me over $200 to fix :-(

Fingers crossed it's not!

christin, Mar 1, 9:06am
finally managed to find time to ring them. Said it looks like a fault on the exchange end and theyre going to send someone out. I mentioned the pole too so hopefully have a phone soon!

and got my home phone line diverted to cell phone so wont be missing any calls.
