Suddenly there was a tap on my roof. I had no idea why!

Yep paid. It was one of my rentals in another town. Couldn't get anyone to inspect his work so just had to trust and pay.

I feel for you. Good luck getting it rectified or money back to pay someone else to put it right.

Tap ?

I changed the water to mains pressure. Tap was too an old header tank. Roofer asked about pipe sticking through the roof, I said, I'm in Auck, I cant sort it. Its part of your job, you sort it. He said "ok, I'll sort it. Thats how he sorted it lol.
Its currently going through court. Had the first hearing been adjourned until the next hearing. He told the court it was my fault, I should have organised a plumber. Would have been nice had he even told me I needed one. I thought the pipe was dead. I had told him to cut it off below the roof line. He agreed to sort it. That was his idea of sorting it. Just ruin the flashing and silicone around the pipe. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Even in the first 2 pix is that a valley ? If it is that is not done right by the looks . Was he a LBP ?

in the 1st and 2nd photo the flashing has been folded back and under the roofing , WHY, all this will do is water will run of and sit in the fold and rust out anyway, obviously a cowboy or no experience or probably both.

Yes, he needs to be licensed. Google it. If he wasnt, the outcome of your court case will be a foregone conclusion.

I wish I could "un-see" that.
friendly_prawn,

Yep. Its a valley. And he has run the ridge capping that comes off the top of the valley (ridge of the house) down the ridgeline and crossed it over the valley instead of trimming it back. Any leaves in that valley and it'll block up real quick and flood the house. We went to court and he's arguing its all good. Supposed to be like that apparently.

Im guessing he's not licensed. He was a friend and normally does really good work. Apparently when he got up on the roof he was in considerable pain from back issues. On 400mg of tramadol per day. He should never have taken on the job.
If I had of known he was drugged to the eyeballs while undertaking this work no way in hell he would have got the work. I have two friends with bad backs who were living on tramadol. As much as I liked them it got to the point I just couldnt deal with them any more. Their logic was screwed all to hell. Just couldn't reason with them.
What do you mean by this? "If he wasnt, the outcome of your court case will be a foregone conclusion" Of course I'm looking for any ammo to sort this court case out.

haha thats only a fraction of the issues. Newly finished roof was leaking too.

Im curious, how many in here would think putting ridge capping across a valley like he's done is ok?
Im not sure there are any guidelines against this as its not anything normal some one would do. I'll be able to find regulations that say all the silicone he has used isn't a permanent solution. I think I can find regulations that will say leaving roofing paper sticking out past the edge of the roofing iron all around the house is not ok. I can find regulations for the other issues but how do you find regulations against something as bizarre as putting ridge capping across a valley? It's like trying to find a regulation against using an umbrella to stop the rain getting in. Its just not done.

i'm not a roofer, but i've been up on hundreds of roofs over the years (maybe thousands) and that flashing in the valley is funny as hell. tho i do wonder what its covering up.
someone is high as a kite if they think thats ok.

Prawny - Im sure in one or two of your previous threads on this subject you called him your (ex) "Builder" friend. Is this guy a builder or a roofer? Is he a builder that said he would do your roofing job or a proper roofer?
friendly_prawn,

The guys a builder. He and his dad have been in the building business for decades. Really good reputation. So no he's not a roofer. He's a builder. But I know they have built houses from the ground up. I ASSUMED part of that was building the roofs too. I honestly believe this job would have turned out ok if the guy wasnt taking 400mg of tramadol a day while trying to do the job. To my knowledge this is the first job he has ever done that has turned to crap.

I don’t need to google it. You don’t have to be LBP to do a like with like reroof. It does have to be done to code however.

I am saying that if he is unlicensed, in my opinion he doesnt have a leg to stand on. I'm sure the court will see it that way too. He was breaking the law by doing the job.

Are you saying that the rules only apply to new roofs? I looked it up and roofing comes under the scope of Restricted Building Work which means you have to be licensed or supervised by a licensed practicioner.

Having lived under a valley like that, and had the ceilings fill up during a storm because of leaf blockage - those pics bring back memories.

Looks like the work of our australian brothers.
