A portaloo is not a high price item to hire. No excuse for not supplying one to staff.

fair enough if there is a crew there for a while but if its 1 or 2 guys for a couple of days i wouldnt expect them to supply a portaloo, and of course the cost of that loo would be passed on to the owner

If you were working at my place I would rather they done their business on site rather than wasting my money driving else where to do it. Are you employing animals or something? Open a window, spray, toilet brush, its not rocket science

After 25 years of running my own business i can say not everyone would be ok with that.

I could rant and rave at this point. BUT. In this modern age what is wrong with being a poof?

Plastic bag in a bucket then throw the nasty business into back of van or truck. Or ask for a discount per log?

Wouldnt you rather they didn't have to crap at all? As for saying when you have to go you have to go what a load of rubbish. When a smoker has to have a smoke they have to smoke. So do you let a tradie smoke in your house? I have more problems over the years with smokers than shitters. Especially their mood swings when they cant get their hit.

Im also a builder and have been in the habit of taking a dump at home before I go to work. Havent crapped at work in the last 40 years because back in those days we just dug a shallow hole and put a tin shed over it. It stunk so wouldnt want to spend any more time in there than necessary. Normally 4 guys on my jobs and 2 of them take a dump in the portaloo every day but they would rather hang on than crap in the clients bog if doing a renovation.

And at this time of year with this heat the portaloos are not a lot better than the old long drops. Especially after a few days of having a serial crapper on the job. I have a roofer who has to crap every day straight after lunch and then leaves the seat up. We screwed the seat down one day. He got the message then.

I feel sorry for the poor guy that has to go around and empty/clean the portaloos. Ours is done on a weekly cycle.

to be honest, we all know what its like when you are desperate to use the toilet, i would have no problems with it -if you need to go, you need to go - what this thread is indicating to me is that all tradies dont know how to use the toilet properly - and yet if they go up the road, i hope you realise it will be on your time - im actually amazed there is even a thread on this.

some times people just cant plan it like that, if only we all could im sure we would all love to hold it in.

WTF ? Normal bodily function, of course tradesmen can have a "Dump".

Dec 11, 1:23am
what this thread is actually about is a tradie turning up for work at 8am and 5 mins later is wanting to use my dunny-not on in my books. Its got nothing to do with being on my time or not. All other tradies that have been here have gone down the road and have had no probs with doing so

Ask them & explain if you have to go into town it will still,be charged out to you at normal hourly rate ,. same as cleaning afterwards " would you like me to clean up $ $60 hr ? .jCustomers dont even give you a cuppa or drink of water these days as they are paying for the time .

Expecting to be the centre of the universe that everybody follows makes you a dork

Have to agree with you there. I have worked in peoples Kitchens, they have come in and made their lunch, in front of you, sat down & ate it, in front of you, not even asked if you would like a coffee or glass of water. Letting you use their toilet? I don't think so.

You are there to do a job though, not have a sit down meal with your clients.
We have had a few tradies over the years, I always offer a cold drink or a cupper. Generally it’s declined as we don’t drink milk or they simply bring their own.

Always offer tradies a drink, and to use the toilet. Never had any issues. They get paid, you get work done, no need to treat them like second class citizens. However, would have to say that most of the tradespeople I have used recently have been very good. Last one turned up exactly on time, very friendly, went over and above what was expected, and charged me LESS that what I thought was fair (gave him a decent tip).
I would expect them to try to avoid stinking up the bog when possible, but sometimes it just catches you by surprise (especially after a hot curry ;-) )

there seem to be a few who disagree with the train your body idea. but I for one have a crap in the morning after my second cup of tea , and that's it , till the next morning, needing a leak I have not mastered controlling.

Exactly although customers dont realise it stuck up tightassed customers get charged more . . My boss always asked if we got a cuppa at lunchtime & in the 60s - 80s always did , many even supplied bikies or cakes for smoko too . Not today .-- A hotel i did work for used to let contractors use staff room food for lunch until a trainee manager came along & decided they should all leave the premises & eat elsewhere .Soon the accountant noticed an increase in charges & when he discovered what the trainee had done got it reversed

only for 'to do jobs' you could have a hour long dump and it would not have any bearing on the end cost to the client

When an office worker goes into the their place of work should they be supplied a toilet to use? It's not really on in my book, you are meant to be working at your desk. Cbd office blocks shouldn't even be built with toilets as there are always public facilities nearby.
