Just over 50yrs in the trade, practicing licence runs out today. Time to hang up the tool belt and leave it to you younger guys.

I presumed you are in building trade. I am pretty sure your skills can be used in related industries. Of course, enjoyed your retirement

If your in the building trade in ChCh I'd have thought perfect time to stay working if you wanted? My ex won't stop until he's dead 68 this year and still going his father died on site and he will as well I bet.
Enjoy retirement if that's what you want :) Give it a month you'll be board lol

Kam04 if your practising licence runs out today I, d bet a $100.00 that you are in the most regulated trade I.e. sparky, been in it 46 yrs myself and had a gutsfull yea.things have changed, more rules than ever.

You are not wrong. I too have been in the trade for over 50 years and mine runs out today too. I was told when I got my registration that I would never have to update it as it was covered by an act of parliament-they found their way around that by introducing practising licenses.

Unfortunately health reasons have forced me to take this action. Age 70 was my target.

Sparky. Have been looking at different things to do, trade and non trade related.

Have you thought of approaching heat pump installers? A mate of mine had problems getting a sparky. .As I understand it. properly qualified fridgies have a limited electrical qualification, but they often need a fully qualified sparky.

This type of work involves a lot of working up in the roof which unfortunately I can no longer do. One of the reasons for me having to give it up.

. charie - it's nice to see you back, although we've had our differences, I have often wondered how you got on - are you recovering now OK?

My last day was about four years ago, the body can't hack it now. My reg. no. must be one of the lowest in NZ, 1? . I try and keep up with the rules, so much crap going on now I'm glad to be out of it.

At 70, why not look for a hobby rather than think about more work. I enjoy whitebaiting and Salmon fishing, and all the fun filled banter between fisherman around me.Lots of sun and fresh air.

I agree about the crap.
kam04,
Jul 2, 9:54pm
No problem. Yep there are plenty of things I can do just a matter of sorting out what I can do. Maybe I could come on here every day and offer advice to the DIY sparkies, lol.

Not 70 yet a wee way to go. I live on a lifestyle block so plenty of sun and fresh air also.

Good luck, every day will be Saturday now. But find something worthwhile to do, you'll get bored fishing or playing bowls

Hmmmm, I forgot about that. Maybe they could teach me a thing or two
kam04,

Hope not, I used to work Saturdays as well. Maybe I could take up Test & Tagging full time

Hi Paix - no hard feelings-yes after a total of seven and a half weeks in hospital and 3 operations am now starting to come right. Blardy colorectal cancer has got me a permanent stoma and Supra pubic catheter as they accidentally cut my urethra also no more sex as they cut the nerve too.
