That sounds promising. Have a good Christmas & Happy New year.

Customer care electorlux, has just sent me a letter to say that they will pay for the full and final contribution for 100% cost of parts and 3x Housecall Fees only.
So that is great news. :):) So if this happens to you, and your dishwasher is under 5 years old and it breaks down, try to get the company to repair for nothing, first before you go out there to buy another one.

Hi Sue72 sounds like a good outcome. Always worth a try first. Too many people just throw there hands in the air and go off and buy another new appliance. Just what the manufacturers like to see.

ang_ck, Jan 15, 3:42am
wow, talk about customer service, that is fantastic news.

sue72, Jan 15, 8:53pm
Yes, thats how they make more money, for you to buy more of there products.

sue72, Jan 15, 8:55pm
Yes, hope that all goes well?
Will let you know . to be continued.

I have finely got my diswasher repaired yesterday, after over five weeks waiting. I think that they where trying to see, if they take there time to fix my dishwahser, then maybe that I might get sick of waiting, i might change my mind and buy one instead. Well I thought I shouldn't be disappointed about the wait, i am getting it fixed fore free.
So now I can wash my dishes in my dishwahser!

We've had 3 different dishwashers over about 24 years - Simpson which was pretty good, Indiset which was useless, & now we have a Miele & it's brilliant! Had it for about 5 years & never had a problem. Quiet & cleans well.

southerngurl, Feb 14, 4:11pm
Our first one was a Heier, Worked ok with tweaking. Hubby had to fix a few parts. The new one is a Robinhood. its fantastic. I love that it has a cutlery shelf. and so quiet!

how long would you expect dishwashers to last? Have a Westinghouse one for about 4 or 5 yrs now and is playing up. service man said it will cost about $500 to fix. what brands would you recommend

morrisjvan, Dec 20, 12:49am
Got a f&p mechanical timer one here , must be 30 yrs old ,starting to make some funny sounds over the last couple of months though.
Is nothing made to last? (sigh!)

pamow69, Dec 20, 1:19am
Get a 2nd opinion, He is ripping you off. I fix Westinghouse dishwashers all the time & never come even close to $500. Unless it has a burnt out motor and a blown main control board but that is highly unlikely.

pamow69, Dec 20, 1:27am
Other thing is, that if you bought it brand new and have only had it 4-5 years then tell them you want it repaired for free. You are covered by the NZ Consumer Guarantee Act which states that it has to be fit for the purpose you payed for, which is to perform well and wash your dishes for a reasonable number of years. 4-5 is not reasonable for such an expensive repair. One of my customers with a Samsung front load washing machine 4 years old. The drain pump burnt out & damaged the control board. Took my advice & stood his ground & demanded a repair. He phoned me 3 days ago to say Samsung had been out & repaired it for free.

sue72, Dec 20, 1:44am
Yes, it is the Control board and inlet vale.

Not F and P
Bosch

Post the model number & I will find out Monday how much the parts cost. Give you some idea what it should cost. Only an hour at most for labour.

I went to disputes tribunal for a 4 year old LG dishwasher. Person in the court said I didn't give enough evidence that the dishwasher should last more than 4 years.
Although the guy representing LG at the dispute was very nice and apologised for their Sydney (rude woman) call centre operator and couriered the parts to me to fix the dishwasher even though I could not prove 4 years was not durable and fit for purpose.

sue72, Dec 20, 11:04am
Ok, thanks. That would be great.
Here is the model number: WDF901SA
He said that the control board $350
inlet vale $60
and One Hour of labour.

I would rate Westinghouse over F&P. I actually miss our old Westinghouse dishwasher (left in house when sold)

hesian, Dec 20, 2:49pm
I see you are from Wellington. If you cant get a cheaper quote you could try that place up near LV Marten which stocks real bargains in either second hand or 'seconds' with cosmetic damage for a replacement. Sorry cant remember the name but just up the hill a bit and on the corner.

We got a new oven (a service tenant had smashed up the old one which cost over $800 new) for around half price and spotted a very reasonable nearly new dishwasher from them. We waited until we were visiting Wellington anyway and travelled in farm truck to carry our bargains. Lucky you being in that area!

pamow69, Dec 21, 12:57am
Ok thanks sue I will find out on Monday. Will post you a reply back Monday evening.

footdr, Dec 21, 1:37pm
Since I need a new ( or good second hand one ) washing machine -What LV Martin store would that be- at the bottom of the Ngauranga Gorge or Newtown ?

cantabman1, Dec 22, 11:11am
If you are going to buy budget line products on price, then you will find that the life is shorter, and with some problems as a general rule.
The better appliances now on the market are the European models, such as Meile,Bouch,Smeg.A.E.G etc. They are not cheap, but have a very good reliability factor, as well as being quite and efficient.I do agree that the life of any model should be over 6 yrs.

pamow69, Dec 23, 3:23am
Ok Sue72 The Westinghouse agent here said the price of control board is $253 and inlet valve is $18-70. Both prices include GST but are the trade price which is what your service person would be buying them for. So $500 would be a bit over the top even if he added a markup of 20% on the parts. I would say more like $400 would be reasonable with 1 hour labour. What I can't understand is why an inlet valve & a main board needs replacing at same time. Very unusual for an inlet valve to damage a main board. If it was here & me looking at it I would be exploring the possibility of getting the board repaired if possible. Depends on how badly it is damaged.

Whiteware Technician told me with dishwashers they are a classic case of you get what you pay for. Most of the cheaper end dishwashers are fitted with the same pumps regardless of the machines name. These pumps are built to last until just after the warranty expires. Repairs are often expensive and exceed the value of the machine.
