Power points?

rachstar_02, Feb 25, 6:14pm
do i have to get an electrician to change these for me! all of the points in my house are single and i really want to change them to double !

rachstar_02, Feb 25, 6:17pm
thankyou!

rotormotor7, Feb 25, 8:53pm
If you DIY yourself, remember to cut one fixing screw shorter so it doesn't screw into the cables when screwing back and hopefully your existing wiring is in good condition with insulation intact. A few unknowns, hope you are confident, I have fixed up a fair few jobs where the homeowner as had their hand at it.

wouldnt actually be me - id ask dad who knows what hes doing!

russ18, Feb 26, 10:42am
Well that's different. No someone else cannot carry out electrical work on your home if they are not registered to do so, the exemption applies only if you both own and occupy the home.

The exemption for appliance repair extends to near relatives.

ok good to know ill ring around some sparkies then!

Get a quote! Please - I thought it would be a smallish job but got charged for 6.5 hours work for 2 - yes 2 - power points. I did make the mistake of going off to work and leaving the guy an dhave no idea what he did for that time but will never, ever use that company again. And yes, I know I should have got a quote - but for 2 power points I honestly didn;t think it would be that much. And before anyone asks - they were right through the wall from other power points so there was no extra wiring to do.

hope they installed RCD's on those circuits they added powerpoints too. Otherwise they are not following the rules.

daryl14, Feb 26, 1:12pm
That right there, if you have paid it, is a case for the disputes tribunal. Totally unrealistic hours for the job and you got ripped off.

elect70, Feb 26, 2:58pm
Did you leave them smokoif not then job costs more, they probably went back to the workshop & you were charged accordingly ., then there isallthe paperworkto covereveryones backside

210sback, Feb 26, 2:59pm
did you pay the bill or dispute it!if you paid it your a fool and it serves you right,it would take me a maximum of 1 hour to do that job and that includes the rcd on a switchboard, how much did the bill come to for this job!

pete172, Feb 26, 6:46pm
Be sure to TURN THE POWER OFF before you start

davea74, Feb 27, 5:24pm
Lol, you have no idea why it took that long, or what the job involved. You cannot possibly say how long it would take you.

muzzaandmich, Feb 27, 5:29pm
Wait for it .
Another accident going out to happen
Turn on the switch
Wait for the Bang
Then remember.I TOLD YOU SO
Get a reg sparky .

hmck, Feb 28, 9:49am
Yes I queried it, (their response "yes we know he is very slow") and eventually paid it - I paid at the same speed he worked at.And I'm not an idiot thanks.

hutchk, Feb 28, 1:23pm
If that was their response, and you still paid the bill, then all evidence points to idiocy of some degree.

davea74, Feb 28, 6:18pm
Please read the quotes properly, it was the post the I responded to that called you an idiot.I was actually backing you up.

davea74, Feb 28, 6:18pm
Have you seen the job! You're merely pissing in the wind with your job 'estimate'

firefly001, Mar 2, 6:55am
I can't get the target security cams out of my head.could probably make a trilogy

daryl14, Mar 2, 7:59am
I was thinking the exact same thing!

t_naki, Mar 31, 11:06pm
100% agree

For all we know the existing sockets were TRS and he had to go back to the board, with an awkward house 6.5 hours could be easily be chewed up by the time you go back to the wholesalers for more gear.
