Hi there, does anyone know how long these take to grow! Can find lots of other info on them but not how quick or slow they grow!

Cant give you a time frame so probably not much help, i know they are a lot slower than other 'regular' bottle brush.

Thanks dibble35 - two traders are offering them on here - both different heights and prices. Just wondered if we went with the cheapest, smaller plants, whether that would have a significant impact on how much longer we would wait before they reached a decent height.

Mine has never grown very high and in fact I would say it's more of a sprawler than an upright plant. Love it though. The flowers don't last very long but are spectacular when out

Can you find them in the Palmer's Garden guide! As a species they grow slowly but are wind resistant and hardy. Frosts stop growth, but should survive them. Salt hardy (Rotorua, is not coastal). Rule of thumb, height given is with 3 to 5 years growth. Not after 25 years in your garden. I.e. camellias can grow into trees given 30 to 60 years. Domestic gardens are expected to be re-vamped every 10 years. Hope this helps

If its only a matter of a few dollars i would definatley go with the bigger grade, they will flowere that much sooner

Yes, they are slow but it you are planning on staying at your place, it isn't really an issue putting in a smaller grade plant.I look at our garden of 18 years and wonder where the time went.

I thought they flowered well in spring and summer and occasionally at other times of the year too. Yours look lovely in your garden BTW. How long do yours flower for!

The trader with the higher plants has answered my question and stated they will reach a height of 80cm high 80cm wide within 3/4 years. His/her plants are currently at 25 cm. Good price on them too so will probably go with the higher plants so they get established to their maximum height sooner :)

Yes, that's what we've decided :) Thanks.

Good point. We definitely will be staying at our place for some time as we only bought it 3 yrs ago. The reason I needed to know how fast they grow is because they are going to line our driveway entrance so don't want it looking too bare for too long! Will plant some other complimentary plants I think. Am thinking of some Leucadendrons up against the fence.

Thanks everyone :)

You probably already know not to fertilise them - (the leucodendrons). I think now you can buy special fert for these Ausi/south african type plants that dont have high nutrient requirements. The bottlebrushs arnt so sensitive but still still dont need much fert, Good luck
