I have a thriving privet growing up through the deck. I have hacked away at as much as possible. The 'trunk' is still there and I don't have any tools to get rid of it - I am not a gardener. I am also asthmatic. If I put roundup gel on the top of the trunk will this kill it! Any suggestions!

Borrow a battery drill and drill some holes around the 'trunk' at an angleof about 45o downwards and fill them with whatever you have-roundup or diesel-even salt will do.

Privet thrives on it. You need vigilant gel. Or nastier stuff, cut the tree, apply to cuts.

Yep thats all I do with Privet plants (Full size tree's are a bit different) Drill a 10mm hole as far down the center as possible & fill it up with straight roundup. Does the trick every time.

The application needs completing within approximatly 30 seconds as the cells repair themselves ever so quickly with privet.

yes - the key is a fresh cut.cut it further down, and wipe roundup gel straight away.

Woody weedkiller is the one to use on these - paint the cut stem with it.

I sprayed about two hundred privet with glyphosate [roundup] . killed the lot, some of them over ten years old. took about six weeks to kill them off. Just sprayed the seedlings three weeks ago and they are now dieing off. There ia nothing much will survive a blast of glyphosate
