Don't - it truly doesn't need it.

Lavender grows best, and flowers smell better if its in very poor dirt

can the experts please supply some more names of shrubs that need similar soil etc! I have 1/4 acre to fill, and I need as many ideas as possible (drought tolerant would be good)

Agree. I cut my English lavender back at the end of January and give it a dressing of lime.

I give my lavender's a feed of worm wee or sheep pellets every fortnight - it certainly hasn't 'harmed' them, in fact they're very bushy and healthy now :)

any of the proteas or leucadendrons are drought tolerant ( they're from Sth Africa ) like sandy soil - no clay and absolutely no fertiliser or they will die.
