Changing light fitting

mer1, Jan 6, 12:06am
In our bathroom we have a standard lightbulb attached horizontally to the wall (above our mirror). It is ugly and we want to replace it with some sort of wall light. Does anyone know the standard cost of electrician for that kind of work and any idea of a good fitting for the bathroom? Thanks in advance.

Why don't you ask a sparky for the cost. Not a very big job and might do it as a cashie. He will also probably suggest a particular fitting as he will have put in a few and knows what would suit

DIY. All you do is the same as any other part of house.
We did. with the earth wire it had too.

There is an electrical code for homeowners for self done electrical work you can download, however I am guessing that if you are asking, you won't be keen to do the job yourself.

Good luck finding a nice wall light. Our glass broke in ours, so had to be replaced. Only found a couple of styles. A few lighting places didn't have any. they all seem to be going led strips.

$902.50 incl a nice new strip light and gst.

Before you buy anything check to make sure there is a green earth wire in the cable.
If not you are restricted to buying a fitting that has no metal which requires earthing. But really for insurance purposes anything like this you should get a
sparky.

Partly true, plenty of metal fittings are double insulated these days as a lot are extra low voltage so can be installed without an earth.

As I said, plenty of ugly options around.
