What’s biting

colin433, Jan 7, 11:46pm
hubby takes the dogs for a walk on the cycle track and occasionally they all come back itching. He says they are little black midge type insects. He puts insect repellent on his arms and legs, the dog have to put up with it. They are gone again with a change in the weather. Then they're back again, something that needs to be tolerated I think, just get out that repellent

Is there a product that I can spray around garden and under trees to sort out mosquitoes and midges. My grandchildren always get bitten when playing in the garden

gilligee, Dec 21, 1:26am
Put insect repellent on the grandchildren.

Yes I do this wondering if there was something I can spray on grass etc to help this problem

Think about it for a minute.

You want to spray something around your neighborhood that will wipe out ALL insect life in the area (insecticides aren't species selective).

I hear there is a product called DDT that does a good job.

Yes, you can't spray the entire section, well you could if you want to poison all the bees as well and everyone else in the vicinity, Anoint the kids instead.

Make sure there's no stagnant water around in pots etc. In this warm weather they breed so quickly.

Have you any pooled water that they breed in? Maybe you can reduce their numbers by emptying buckets. You can put a small amount of cooking oil in troughs and such and that will suffocate them. Work out where they are coming from.

Dont forget any tyres that may be around. They will collect rainwater too
