What does it cost to regulate a watch?

Hi, My automatic watch is gaining about 5 minutes a day. It was not expensive so I wanted an idea of what a jeweller / watchmaker would charge.to set the timing right. Can anyone advise? many thanks.

Is it a digital watch or an "old style" analogue one. ?

If its started to gain time probably needs a clean, regulating would be just a waste of money

Its a Seiko automatic movement.

It is actually an Invicta with a Seiko movement. its running about 30mins fast per 24 hrs. local jeweller says probably needs a clean etc. Cost is way more than a new watch of the same model. Ah well! thanks for the help tho.

get a $20.00 digital on here and no worries, after all all you are doing is telling the time. Bought my present watch at the swap meet, $1.00 and a battery $4.00

My Swiss Bifora automatic watch is 55 years old. It has never been opened or cleaned. It keeps perfect time. My theory is that a jeweller would probably make it worse.
How hard can it be to adjust? I adjust clocks by listening to the ticking compared with a known accurate clock.

Open it up and check that there are no loose bits of hair wound round the cogs. If you see any, hook them right out and it will certainly slow down.

If your watch started running fast suddenly it could have either taken a hit or become magnetized & should have no need for a full service. Seiko movements are known for long reliability.

Always go to a watchmaker not a jeweller. The latter will send it to a watchmaker anyway and charge you big for their ticket clip.

Absolutely right.
A watchmaker I know quoted a jeweler on a Rolex service and the jeweler got back to him saying, " the customer doesn't want to go ahead, please send the watch back."
Which he did.
Then the jeweler sent it back to him saying the customer had changed their mind, "please do it".
When they sent it back to him they accidently left their quote with it.
His quote to them had been $300, theirs to their customer was $1200.
