could be as simple as a thermal cutout replacement. I would put them on here as is - they will sell.

Mmm a friend of mine had two deWalt chargers fail too. Are these things not a reliable brand!

mansonprincess, Dec 26, 9:26pm
you need to take them to E waste drop off

skin1235, Dec 26, 10:03pm
are you talking the charger or the battery

if it is the charger thats quit just chuck in the green wheelie bin, or better yet the recycle bin, they can reclaim the copper if they bother ( our recycle bins get picked up by the same truck that goes to the landfill, same truck, both bins at the same time, so much for bothering to bother, even the sth taranaki council don't give a stuff)

dewalt is one of the best brands.

"Better" is probably a more accurate description. They've had their fair share of problems over the years, including whole shipments of dodgy batteries which they had to replace under warranty.

I wouldn't mind betting their products are assembled/made in china either (under license to DeWalt in the US).

Sorry guys,I have 2 dead batteries. Thanks for the above replies.

geoff_m, Dec 27, 8:34am
The batteries can be repacked, if the tool is still good. Worth doing given the cost of DW stuff. I have a couple
If they are XRP batteries, throw them my way, as mine are dead, need repacking and have broken clips, so I can make 2 out of 4 if I get the cells replaced

Dead batteries or dead chargers or both!
Nicads need to be flattened before charging. Don't recharge a partially used Nickel Cadmium battery.
Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer and nickel metal hyrdride and lead acid should be topped up straight after use.

planespotterhvn, Dec 27, 8:38am
Try to do a warranty claim on them under the Consumers Guarantee Act. If they are known dodgy they should cough up.

velenski, Dec 27, 8:41am
never had to fix mine after 10 years of heavy use ,and never had one in for repair ,one of the best brands :)

certainly not anymore. Pretty much everything is kinda junky Makita, Hitachi, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Panasonic, Bosch all have had their issues over the last few years.
