Need help with maths

Last year l thought about my demise and wrote a will, and decided on a funeral plan. If l keeled over today my cremation and bits is in a fund and paid for.
Every year prices go up for forms, doctors etc, l want to know how much roughly l need to add every year to cover the cost of inflation.

oh_hunnihunni, Jun 6, 3:04am
Mine is 5k for no frills.

susievb, Jun 6, 3:30am
Yes mine is about 6k for no frills, but money in a funeral fund that you add to it does not take any money out of bank account weekly, monthly etc, it's up to me to put in an ammount, and how often as l want.

So if l know what the average cost of inflation is l can top it off.

$600-$900 for cremation.
$200 or less for a box suitable to put yourself in.
$33 for a death cert.
Thats it.

susievb, Jun 6, 4:04am
No there's more than that, you have to pay a doctor to sign a death cert, transport from where you died to cremation and a hundred a one little charges

tygertung, Jun 6, 4:20am
No, lythande is about right, my grandfather in law died and that is all it cost.

Go to Mitre 10 prob 3 sheets of 20mm custom wood and some square drive screws and a can of PVA glue, make your own box for a fraction of the rip off
prices, recycle center for some kitchen door handles (removable) Get your wife/partner on the sewing machine, sew up some old sheets for lining.
Paint your own box in some rainbow colours and you are good to go.

You can hire the box, it does not get burned.

Put the money in Kiwisaver and let your estate bury you.

U don't need a casket, the funeral people just take the body away in a body bag, cremate the body and then return the ashes to you to do with what you see fit.

socram, Jun 8, 8:24am
That is the most sensible. Then a memorial 'service' only with the ashes in a container.

Everyone hates the coffin being wheeled away, or through those horrible doors.

Although inflation is supposed to be about 1.5%, the water rates are going up 7% and the rates at least 5%. I'd budget for 5%.

lythande1, Jun 8, 6:42pm
Actually it was included in the cremation fees. the doctor.
Transport. well yes, if you pay someone to, and not DIY.
No there were not a hundred other charges, I did this recently.

tegretol, Jun 11, 3:46am
That's 1.5% claimed by the government. In reality the costs of almost everything is rising well above that and I'd add +10% pa.

Can you still just prepay a funeral? Used to pay the amount up front and then they would do funeral at the end. They had your money for ? years and had to absorb any cost increase.

starseeker, Jul 19, 4:04am
Quite right, but funeral homes don't tell you that unless you ask!
