my dahlia seems to have finished flowering and has that mildrew stuff on it. should I cut it right back. When do you plant new ones.thx

i let mine die right down then lift them over winter and replant them in spring after the frosts

I have this super amazing huge orangey red one at the moment. Probably the best it’s ever been! Can see a bit of mildew coming on a few leaves though.

With any bulbs, let the stems die right back before cutting, trimming or lifting. They get nutrients through that stalk. If they are really untidy, just bend over and tie down till time to trim off when the stalk is completely dry and stiff and starting to break down.
