If they are natural wood finish then you'd need wood dough. If you are painting them, then you can use anything. Auto filler or builder's bog would be your best bet, but it's expensive. Polyfiller would be a cheaper option.

You can also get some of the sawdust and mix it with some varnish or PVA, however I would recommend just sanding out dents and nicks as it will be obvious if it has been filled.

If you are filling a hole on a painted wall, try using a matching crayon.
