It used to be possible to buy a spot light fitting double or single that just fitted on a batten holder instead of having to wire separately. Are these still available as i want to change an outside light to a twin spot light without rewiring. Thanks

Will the fitting be exposed to the rain and the first storm short the fitting out

nope .its well protected.neighbour had a similar fitting which was exposed as are most security lights and never had a problem.the position i want to fit it is uner a deep soffit only gets wet if i wash down the house which is once in a blue moon.

Just buy a double sensor light and wire it in, if u don't want the sensor working then by pass it. Easy as. $39

If that type of fitting is still available and has ES lampholders it does not comply with NZ wiring rules/regs

Not quite sure what you want. we installed a security light at last house, drilled up from floor and reattached a plug (outdoor rated wiring) and plugged it into an indoor power point.

15 years ago I bought two of them. One was used twice and the other has been used consistently over three houses for fifteen years. I'd go to Mitre 10 or bunnings and have a squiz. I
Plugs into light socket, base is then screwed down over socket. Brilliant.
Both these fittings are metal and if not double insulated they MUST be earthed. Not possible if they are plugged into batten holder.

Bunnings do have a BC to ES converter but it for internal use only. Im a sparky and you still see those BC to ES outdoor conversion spotlights about, but unsure if still available to buy.
