Any preferences you use re eliminating it welcomed. Getting a bit tired of rolling it up every year,as it is very difficult to dispose of apart from depositing barrow loads of it at the rear of the section. Don't like to but not adverse to using weed killer.

Use Brush Off (triclopyur) with a penetrant, takes a while to act and several sprays but I have cleared a large bank this way. Once it has gone be vigilant about looking for strays and spray when they appear.

oh right. Tradescantia pallida. For a moment there I thought this was a Neo Nazi thread.

Thanks for reply. Live in a tropical sun trap sort of garden up North, can grow most things the year round,so very conducive to weeds as well. First rain for ages this morning so bit of time to have a drive to Bunnings to see what they have. I suppose composting it will be useless. Did read in an organic magazine they have imported an insect which is proving positive for eliminating the weed.

Is it feasible to fence it off & borrow some chooks? They do a great job.

Quite right Doc. If people must call it by a common name then let it be Wandering Willie which has no connotations that I can think of. well? Or else call it by its correct name. it could be Tradescantia fluminensis - that has a pretty white flower.
Such a shame that such a plants person such as John Tradescant should be remembered, here in NZ, by this pest plant. Though in UK the purply stemmed one is prized and grown in glasshouses so it it is not lost over winter.
Weeds are just plants that people haven't found a use for yet . I vote for the chickens

I've never minded Wandering Willie too much compared to the gorse and blackberrry and convolvulus etc

Years ago I read on here how one person used to put hers in a plastic drum and cover with water. I did this with my convolvulus and it does work. i.e. it rots away and makes stinky water.

Try woody weed killer, we had convululous coming over from neighbour, so asked if we could woody weed killer it. It’s gone. Can’t believe it. I had the stuff in a previous garden and it was hellish.

Hand weed it and take it to the tip. And then be vigilant.

Chooks and also guineapigs apparently like to eat it. But of course they will also eat precious vegetable plants. I do find it's easy to pull out, and because it likes shady places you could perhaps clear out the area so the sun gets to it more.
I use a cheapish weedkiller from The Warehouse and it seems as good as any. I paint it on any convolvulus which comes through the fence.

Downhill neighbour dumps their rubbish at top of section and unfortunately the WW has revived and is heading my way. It will probably need spraying one day if the wind ever drops. At the moment I roll it downhill, bag it and use the bags to hold down a sheet of black plastic. The bags shrink to almost nothing ready for the next cleanup.

The best solution for wandering Jew is a wandering Arab

Or you can get a cheap ckicken house, a couple of chooks and move the house every couple of days around the Jew area. You may even get some eggs

Done the chicken thing over the years,Really enjoyed having them donating eggs to everybody. They used to get into the vege gardens.Although they had a large heavy professional house they were free range. A dog got into the section one night and killed them all, after killing all the neighbours pedigree ones as well. Also we travel a lot and it was hard to find someone to feed and water them.
