How do I tighten the springs please?

Wire wove mattresses are not popular these days, as they sag in the middle even when new. It would be difficult to stretch and reattach it to the wood.
It would be easier to screw half a dozen boards underneath and put foam rubber pieces between the wood and the mattress. Then it wouldn't sag any more.

Crikey! My Dad had one of those but it had a wooden base and a squab covered with vinyl (or similar from that era).
Remedy as suggested above - the wire will have stretched more in the centre so it will be very difficult to get even tension now. Webbing might be a bit more resilient than wire but will sag also.

My grandparents wire woves had a aftermarket helper spring under them. A bit of angle iron and some coil springs.

I have what was called a "buckingham' Wire wove = years old still use it = coil springs on a metal frame. love it originally had a foam rubber mattress - now modern =by the way it is on our original oak bedroom suit with tall boy and lovely mirrored dressing table = just over 60 years old now as they say if something is worth keeping its worth looking after = all polished every fortnight
