It'll be the type.My jersey benne's also did this however the desirees don't and I cooked them both the same way - I even tried steaming the jersey's with the same result.

I finished a crop of jerseys back in November, and they all cooked up very firm and waxy. Not one of them split or mushed.

New spuds only take about 10 mins on the boil, then i drain the water adding some mint with the lid on for another 5, always add salt as this helps a little with holding them together. Also regular watering, particularly when the tubars are forming, makes them much firmer and a much better spud.My main crop of a mixed variety including JB's, will be ready in another 2-3 weeks.

Never had that problem with Cliffs before. They will go all yuck if overcooked - definitely.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening, when cooking they are splitting and going mushy, not a good look, wanted them for christmas dinner but can't serve them like that

I wonder if you've simply overcooked them!Home grown potatoes seem to cook in about half the time of shop bought ones.
