No more weedkiller for me.

I've discovered that spraying white vinegar has exactly the same effect. And excellent for folk who have pets of course.

Interesting. How about dat smell tho? Does your garden bring tears to the eye. and not ones of sheer joy and beauty?

Good to hear. We don't use weedkiller or insecticides in our garden and I had read about using vinegar but never tried it. There are heaps of vinegar tips on this website including the weedkiller option

There's a slight odour but I think it disappears quickly. I've NEVER liked using weed killer so this is a perfect solution for me. More economical, as well.

Sure, you try it on Agapanthus, privet and ivy.

Another very effective weedkiller is to put full strength dish-washing detergent on stumps, especially around the cambium layer, rather than using woody weedkillers. No shoots come up again after that treatment. Doesn't need much, & only apply it to the actual stump

For those who don't like daisies in their lawn - use a teaspoon of household salt on each plant. They're gone for good!

Does vinegar kill unwanted grasses & weeds?

shortee2, Dec 31, 2:17am
Have used White Vinegar in this way for years, its also very good for all your Household Cleaning, I don't buy commercial cleaning products, get 2 Ltrs of Pam's White Vinegar from Pak n Save, i buy Pams because its so much cheaper than DYC Vinegar, it does the job just the same.

Just dont get that Vinegar anywhere near Concrete ( like Driveways or foot path ) It will eat it!

lovelurking, Dec 31, 6:02am
Thank you, nearly poured it over my path.

Your welcome, They have been using Vinegar to kill weeds for decades ,and it works pretty well ! except they used it on Footpath and Driveways and near the actual homes as well - The only problem is- most things are made from Concrete over there , and people had to redo driveways, footpath and one of my relatives over there had to do some major work around the house foundations because all the concrete started to crumble .
So yes use it but keep it away from anything that looks like concrete as it will dissolve the Lime ( what is the stuff that holds the concrete together. )

You could urinate on those concrete path weeds.
