Anyone had any experience with the Makita gas powered framer ? I'm tossing up between that and the Paslode framer.

I use Paslodes and generally keep them for about 5 or 6 years before selling them on here (for about $350) and replacing with another. Im on my 3rd now and have very few problems but I do send them in for the occasional service. My latest is only a few weeks old and its great. A workmate has a Makita that's only about 3 years old and it's giving him lots of problems. Having said that, he never looks after his stuff and wouldn't get it serviced until it wont go anymore.

A good tradesman would know how to service his own paslode guns.

And judging by Post3, you don't.

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone has used or owns a cheaper brand nail gun from one of the sellers on trademe. Brands such as fixman, nailspacific and toolshed. I'm an electrician and only use need a framer to do maybe 20 nails in a house but they are handy and fast compared to old fashioned hammering (which I suck at) and screws add up cost wise. I know tool purists will suggest a Paslode etc but at $500 new and my limited use it seems a good deal. Any info would be great

Personally, I would buy a second hand Paslode before I would buy a "cheap" copy for ~$550. There seem to be quite a few Paslodes that look in good condition on TradeMe.
In my opinion, the early model Paslode framing guns are actually better than the new IM90.
And definitely don't buy the Dewalt battery nail gun. Lots of problems with those.

I'm a builder. I have had an ass of a run with paslodes. The ones I have had have been crap. I wish I had of kept my old Zenco and compresser. About two years ago I bought a Dewalt gun. It is not perfect but far less hassles than the paslode. My two staff both have paslode. Next time one of them play up I have told them that it will endup up their f#/%&n as%^&*l.

We have 3 paslodes. Two of the latest model and one is about 10 years old. They go fine, but! Keep them serviced and don't use after market nail and gas combos. Interested in the de Walt though. We have heaps of de Walt gear, from drills, sabre saws, line trimmers, radios etc. it's first class stuff

Out of curiosity, what probs did you have? What model/s?

A friend who is not a builder bought a gas operated gun from The Toolshed. It came with a good warranty (3years I think) and has been trouble free in use around his farm. It doesnt get everyday use though.
My Paslode was one of the early models and went well for years with regular servicing which I usually did myself. Gas operated guns will always need more servicing than air operated models.

I've got an older paslode and like others I service it regularly. Never missed a bang. As for nails dont ever use those stupid Delfast strip nails. Im sure they are made of recycled milk bottles and glued to the strip with araldite.

I bought a cheapie from Mitre 10 for $175 and it is a great tool - loaned out to many buddies and now shot over 2000 nails at home and as good as new - never serviced, barely oiled but working well so stuff spending heaps on a homie!

I advise my customers to not entertain Hilti branded tools, when they fail, which they will, you have to send them back to Hilti for repair, they won't sell parts to other repair centres, as Hilti don't manufacture their product but have other brands rebranded with their name you are better off buying the original brand, most repair service people can identify which brands Hilti have used for their tools
