I thought it was Griselinia lucida. but after looking at the 2nd photo im not sure. Darker stems and too glossy compared to what i see at the nursery

It's very like one I've got, and it's labelled Peperomia.

Is it a young Karaka tree?hard to tell,it also looks like a young rubber tree(maybe)

That was my first thought but not sure. if it is Peperomia make sure it is kept on the drier side, do not over water. Great plants if you can master the watering.

And also do not over pot it, likes its roots confined making it harder to over water.

Thanks for the hints, maclad. I've had mine for just over a year - did repot it and I don't let it get very dry. so that's two things I've learnt. I pruned it a few months ago and it's now sending out new baby leaves, but does it flower, do you know? I haven't yet seen anything even resembling a flower.

They do flower in the form of a long stem with the flowers on the top where the stem appears thickened. Most uninteresting and would not let them form.
