I spend very little on plants for my garden, most things I grow are sourced from work. I spend on fertilizer and unfortunately lots on snail bait as most of the things I love are irresistable to them and there are millions here. Other than that I only buy what I really like and cannot source for free. Even my raised bed cost me zilch, made from left over timber and a big pile of soil that was here when I purchased property. The other thing which I spend on is water. My rates are always paid well in advance so I can water as I wish, until this summer, when very strict water restrictions have been imposed but I guess I will spend many evening hand watering this summer.

ooohhh another gardening 'nut'. Well done on your garden, it looks amazing. Isn't great what we can source for free. Here the horse racing stables put the horsey poo out at the gates for us to take away for free. Our garden thrives on the stuff and helps build up some really rubbish soil we started off with. It is such a thrill to see a garden thrive where there has been nothing.

You garden is lovely maclad. It's never a chore when you love it & especially seeing results like that. Truly a labour of love.

Looking awesome. The first pic of the Lisianthus set the envy for me. lol And the Delphs are just spectacular.

I cheated on the Lisianthus and bought it but only because I let my double one get too dry. Have not lost it just given it a set back. The delphs have been wonderful this year some are 6" plus wide stems and many are over 6' tall. Just been and bought some longer stakes and hope they survive the approaching storm. Constant work dead heading and tying everyday, they grow so fast. Got some lovely colours this year.

sadly at least 50% of my garden has been blown down or broken and all I can do is watch it happen, At least there is a chance they will recover well. I'm so upset and know what I will spend weekend doing, when this infernal wind stops. Just been out driving and flooding seems to be pretty severe and extensive due, I guess, to all the rain and very high tides. Mess, rubbish, damage everywhere, lots of big branches down and I only covered a few kms, hate to think of the extent of it.

Oh no. I was just admiring all the photos and imagining a garden full with butterflies and bees enjoying all the flowers. Hoping the wind will die down for you and no more damage.

It has done a good job, beans and peppers down, peaches blowing off, most of the sunflowers are gone but may regrow and luckily the delphs and hollyhocks will recover, my poor tamarillo has gone again. Have no luck with them and it was looking so promising this year. Lots of other things broken but not too worried as most have finished.

Beautiful garden maclad, a credit to you. Love your sunflowers too. So sorry to hear of the damage, such severe wind that we wouldn't expect right now in Summer. Was bad in Wellington too but I still have sunflowers as they are just coming into flower, very thick stemmed ones and fortunately my husband tied them up when he heard the weather getting worse. Not so easy for you to do that with the type you have being more slender and lots more than we have. They are so cheerful, love them. Great you have the photos though.
