Ouch! Is this going to cost me?

So I win an auction for some pitisporums off trademe. Only thing is they got to be dug out. So I pull up. He shows me the line of trees and says " I want them all dug out and taken away so take the lot if you want"

Cool, sounds good, manage to dig one out. On to the next and put the spade through the top of some expensive looking plumbing. Not just a pipe either. Hard to explain but its capped what ever it is, with a valve body inside of it. Looks like it feeds in to a tank.

I asked the guy if his house insurance would cover it. He said he was going to let me know. So now Im wondering, is this going to end up costing me? Im a little worried because I dont think its going to be cheap. What ever it was, was only buried about 15 cm under the ground.

He wanted the trees gone so he could get a digger in there. Digger would have crushed it in 5 secs flat anyway. *sigh*

lol. Might have to go on vacation for a few months you reckon?

Pittos like that do not transplant well at all, so best you just leave them and the plumbing behind. HOPEFULLY YOU WON'T HAVE TO PAY, NOT YOUR FAULT, AS THE PROPERTY OWNER HE NEEDED TO FIND OUT WHERE THESE PIPES WERE BEFORE DOING ANY WORK. Sorry not shouting, typo and too lazy to retype.

Exactly!
Larger Pittos, unless bag grown, seldom (if ever) survive shifting anyway, because of their long tap root.
Run, prawn, run!

not your responsibility, he told you to dig, its his property and its up to him to know where hazards are, you could be dead right now.

His insurance might not, cause you are not a tradesman. However it is not YOUR problem, he should have had someone pro dig them out. His laziness will cost him, not you.

Cheers guys. He contacted me and said he would sort it. Whew! Thought they were going to be very expensive trees. lol. Im out of the woods. Pun intended. :-)

Yes of course, now that we have got to the root of it, I understand that. But until you guys cleared that up for me, I was a bit stumped. Appreciate the advice. Now I think it's time to leaf this thread.
