What is the maximum gap you can have between fence pailings when it is over 1.2m above the ground please? Wellington region - if there are different bylaws.
We've added a rail but have to have pailings so no one slips through. I need to know the gap between them.

Given that a fence is normally erected to obtain privacy, what's the point with 100mm gaps? How can one restrain a dog from biting the hands off kids who put them thru that 100mm gap? What's the anti-windage value of a fence full of 100mm holes?

For pailings vertical there is no regulation for the gap .

Some councils have a minimum. 25mm maybe? "visually permeable" it's called.

decking,, not fences. Whateva to prevent the skinny burglars getting in.

are you talking about a handrail round a deck perhaps, very different to fence palings

The reason for the fence is to stop skinny children falling down the 1.2m drop. It is acting just like a balustrade around a deck. Fences with gaps are better windbreaks than solid fences.
Skinny burglars like cats wil just jump any domestic fence.
