This plant turned up in my garden last year, now I have 2. Any idea what it is please.

exactly, not tabacco but a cousin, self seeds, wonderful in the hot summer along with Evening Primrose (yellow) and Salvia Indigo (deep purple)

It's called Nicotiana sylvestris. Fabulous plant, fragrant on warm summer nights.

I think, from what I can see in your photo - underneath the cosmos is another member of the same family - Nicotiana langsdorfii. It's the small lime green tubular flower (it always reminds me of a hooped skirt when viewed a certain way!)

Yes that's nicotina I planted, that's why I wondered if the big one was some sort of a hybrid. God knows how it got there.
