Have had a grapevine, which always gave heaps of grapes but unfortunately got cut down accidentally by guys doing neighbours trees ans bushes.
It always gave heaps of grapes, there is a stump there, about an inch high and 7 or so inches across. From what I've read it will grow again? As long as root system there?
If so, will it be years and years or in the next one or two? Thanks!

I reckon it will regrow . they are very resilient & grow easily from cuttings, so I figure if the root system is still intact, it will grow & you'll probably get more grapes . you can only wait & see. At least it's the right time of the year for a damned good prune! good luck.

They normally seem to grow regardless of how severe the pruning!

If it was a grafted vine then you have probably have lost the grape variety you once had and any regrowth will be of whatever variety the rootstock is.

Thanks, I hope it comes back. It's been here since I've been here since 2001 and have no idea if grafted Etc, It's been pretty hardy so far, gives grapes when trimmed back each year or not!
Fingers crossed,!

The next year it won't produce fruit, it will grow back. The year after it will produce fruit again. They are pretty hard to kill, I took one out and put it through the mower, composted (with other stuff) all the mowed stuff, and a year later I had baby grapevines growing out of the place I had used that compost.

not worried about no fruit for a year or so, just wanted an idea of if it will grow in how long type thing. If its not going to grow will change the fence so dont want to be staring at it for five years hoping on a dead vine lol.
i had baby vines coming up from the roots ages ago, but never really grew much .

It will grow. You do feed it and water it don't you? When it needs it?

Haven't done in the past as it grew pretty rampant without it, Figured rain was enough. Always had too many grapes!
But guess I'll need to now?

might pay to cut it off cleanly with a decent prunning saw on a slight angle for water runoff and paint it with bacseal etc to seal the wound.7 inches across is decent sized area for various fungi to get in?
