Cholorine in pools

How often do you put cholorine in your pool! I am new at this pool thing and need some help.

Take some water to a pool shop. They will test it and tell you what and how much to use.of all manner of chemicals to fix all manner of "deadly" ills. See how much chlorine they recommend, use about half of that until you work out if it's enough or not and ignore all the other utter rubbish. The easiest solution is to install a chlorine "tablet" dispenser. (dissolves gradually).

Unfortunately we do not have a pool shop here. We have a cover on the pool, so will a chlorine dispenser work!

Get some test strips which when dipped in the water will give a fairly accurate indication of your chlorine, ph, total alkalinity & stabiliser levels.
Work out the volume of your pool ie how much water it holds & the chlorine container or google can advise how much to use. The addition of a stabiliser /sunscreen at the start of the season will slow down the rate at which chlorine is leached out by the sun. Correct ph etc makes sure that the water is optimal for swimmer comfort & extends the life of the filter equipment. I wouldn't call that rubbish.
ETA Not familiar with your area re pool supply shops but generally a half decent hardware shop will stock test strips & chlorine, also some farm water pump repair places, some over here stock pool equip as a side line.

we just made the kids run around and make a whirlpool before getting out - tip half a cup of bleach in and pop the cover on.Never used chlorine - but bleach worked perfectly well for the past 25 years :)

Bleach is sodium hypochlorite i.e. chlorine!

I try and keep 2 tri-clor tablets in the skimmer basket at all times and replace them when they are dissolved, and then test once a week and add a cup or two of powdered clorine based on the clorine indicator on the test strip.

Chemically different.

must be - over bleaching the pool doesn't turn hair and nails green like chlorine does :)

Weekly usually. At night, sunlight kills it.

When we bought our house everyone told us the pool would be a nightmare - including the real estate agent.

We did a bit of google and found out it's about 10 mins a wekk plus whatever time to vacumme all the rubbish off the bottom. We bought a butterfly net at the whouse and when in the pool use it to fish out the floating leaves etc.You dont even notice you are doing it.

Concrete pool or vynal!Makes a difference to how pedantic you have to be.We've got an old para pool (vynal) and bought our clorine in bulk - like 20kg and its super cheap.About a cup full a week - at night and check with the test strips and all seams fine.Just watch the ph as well.sometimes we have to chuck in some baking soda.

Pet shops also have test kits for aquariums. Results are the same just the treatment chemicals are different for obvious reasons.

Along with the chlorination of the water, make sure you run your pump long enough to filter the water properly.
