Reporting possum catch numbers?

rebecca18, Oct 23, 4:00am
Can anyone tell me if there is a phone number to ring to report numbers of possums caught in my garden Timms trap? I live in the Waitakere foothills of West Auckland and have been catching possums as quickly as I can get the trap set. 5 nights trap set = 5 possums. I don't remember there being so many before. The most I've ever caught before this was 2 on consecutive nights. I want to keep them out of my garden.

i dont see why anyone would want to no, just keep on catching them , this time of the year the skins are no good, so just bury them in your garden, good fertilizer, i used to bury them under our passionfruit vine.

Just goes to show how well 1080 works. Yeah right.

there is a report method but one trap in a garden means nothing.
just keep at it. possums travel a long way and will go to favorite spots. you can knock down the population simply by constantly trapping a favorite location.

It's probably a lack of 1080 drops that's the issue.

So jealous. I have a couple wrecking my garden at the moment and I just can't catch them.

I live right next to the Waitakere ranges, the bush is literally at my backdoor. There are people interested in possum numbers so poison can be laid. I thought someone might know the contact details. Another neighbour has reported more possums than usual.

mx38 What bait are you using to attract them? I use about 1/8 of an apple sprinkled with ground up star anise. It has always worked for me. Good luck catching those blighters.

They will be attracted to anything especially apples and fruit. Even flour sprinkled on the ground will attract them just to see what it is.That's what some trappers used in the bush, except there was a small drop of cyanide in the middle which cured their curiosity instantly.

Yeah, apple carrot etc . I have a couple that set off a Timms but didn't get caught and are now trap shy . only takes one to keep the fruit trees and roses stripped. !

Try letting TB movement control know I am sure they will know who to advise

these pests carry tb which get passed on to cattle.

Only a few of them.

Put the trap out without setting it and just leave an apple inside, their curiosity will soon get the better of them and they will come back for more. Why didn't the trap catch them, was it not set correctly.

We don't have heaps of them here, just enough to be a pain . they only visit the garden some nights, can be two weeks btwn visits, so it's hard to keep fresh bait in the trap all the time. Now and then I've left the apple too long and it slips down on the rod and it doesn't catch them, but gives them a fright and makes them trap shy.
