What can I use for my pendant light?

In my flat the kitchen light is is in middle of the room so the light is behind me when I am at the sink/window, dad made up a pendant light for me which is above the sink/window and is plugged into the electric socket up by the ceiling where the explair is plugged in.

To bring it out from the wall he mounted a bracket/clip thing for plastic guttering -see photo

I am doing up the kitchen and want to replace the bracket with something a bit flasher, any ideas?

Clever use of a gutter bracket, but I'm sure when you do up your kitchen, you will need some electrical work.

So why don't you get some proper lights (LED downlights?) installed by an electrician.

What and spend money! ! My dad owns the flat but any changes eg re painting , decorating l have to pay for as it my choice. I guess l could screw a cuphook into the ceiling but that seems a bit low brow.
