Black polythene moisture barrier

fxx99, Oct 18, 2:35am
I want to put down some black polythene under my house as a moisture barrier. The ground is a little damp. Is there any particular black polythene to use ? I read construction grade 6mm. Is this correct ?
Thanks

6mm is very very thick!

most shops will know what you want.

make sure you sort the drainage first. if its damp then its either go little air flow or poor drainage. the ground under the house needs to be slightly higher than outside the house.
you will need some pins to pin it down to the ground otherwise it will lift up when the wind blows. the pins will also be drain holes, you can make more holes, in case any water gets blown under or a pipe leaks.
obviously if your ground is to low it will fill up with water rather than drain away.
don't forget the good tape.
measure and cut to size outside, then drag it under.

250mu they come in rolls that are 4m wide by either 25 or 50 meter.

That's 0.25mm thick. I imagine that would be OK.

This is exactly how under my house looks, don't forget to tape up around your piles. just as the picture shows.

tho i would go up the piles a lot more.
wrap the piles first then you don't have to be so accurate on cutting around them.
also go up the outside edge. that helps stops rain from being blown in. just don't cover up the vents.

to add, this is good
http://sarahfree.org.nz/2013/06/10/polythene-moisture-barrier-can-reduce-condensation/ this is poor. http://www.ilott.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/SetWidth696-poly-sheet.jpg
the tm link is just the above with tape around it. bits missed and not high enough.

Use Dpm 250 micron, but it is far more important that you have addressed everything else . like clear vents , drainage , paths falling away et etc
