Do you think 118 dollars

johnwood, Jul 7, 12:11pm
An hour is expensive for a a plumber. Or is that normal. His helper was not qualified they charged the same for him.

nzdoug, Jul 7, 12:29pm
For an hour
Tradesman $118
assistant $118
total $236?

johnwood, Jul 7, 12:49pm
Yep. Just checking if that's a normal price. Plus gst.

blueviking, Jul 7, 12:56pm
My nephew's a plumber in Auckland and they charge $75 which is quite cheap for Auckland. Get some quotes and try builderscrack.

I know of a plumber ( won't say where ) who did a cash job for his own sister, and said it was a favour to charge $95 an hour
God knows what the full rate would be ?

lythande1, Jul 7, 1:52pm
Yes it is expensive. Most aren't that bad.

cagivachick1, Jul 7, 3:13pm
sounds expensive to me for the plumber and definitly expensive for the helper

wildwest3, Jul 7, 3:29pm
Yep that's a bit high, normally an assistant would be a reduced rate, and $118 is top dollar!

jezabeel, Jul 7, 3:42pm
Small job?

johnwood, Jul 7, 5:06pm
Took an hour and a half. Went to the neighbours for two hours then another job. They did split the travel costs as we are 40 minutes away.

cabrio1, Jul 7, 5:16pm
We would charge $120 ph to fix your helicopter, if you had one.
So if you want a set of rotor blades fitted to your boiler give me a shout.

comadi, Jul 7, 7:14pm
Daylight robbery !

buddytom, Jul 7, 7:21pm
yea, you have been ripped. here we pay around $60/$65. ph. and good , honest tradesmen they are as well, If you have a gold card , that can get you a bit of a discount as well.

roys351, Jul 7, 7:21pm
I would think they need to charge that much to make up for the lack of repeat clients. complete ripoff in any part of the world

jezabeel, Jul 7, 8:42pm
Yeah, I've never heard of a plumber charging anything near that, and definitely not for an apprentice.

cabrio1, Jul 8, 5:26pm
Yeah we had a plumber try to charge for the apprentice who just stood there and watched. I complained and they removed the cost, fair dos he was useless.

rbd, Jul 8, 6:26pm
Hah, I'm in the aviation industry too. Some customers have kittens when they are told we want to change a similar rate. Yet Honda Newmarket charges $138 + gst per hour. Go figure?

woody1946, Jul 9, 2:27pm
Ha Ha can relate to that as our near new Suzuki cost around that to be serviced ie: undo the sump plug, drain & refill with oil, and top the window-washer bottle up. Trouble is they have you over a barrel because unless they service it your warranty is compromised

johotech, Jul 9, 2:44pm
I think you'll find that isn't the case at all. You can have it serviced wherever you want. Ask over in motoring if you want to check. Lot's of professional mechanics over there.

woody1946, Jul 9, 3:57pm
If you were the seller of a new car, would you fix a fault if something went wrong, after just any mechanic had been servicing it ?-----I doubt it !

cabrio1, Jul 9, 3:59pm
Geez I know, when we screw up you don't just pull over to the side of the road and phone for help either.
Plumbers, robbing bstds. Quoted $11k to lay some pipe for our extension.
Got a ticketed mate to do it in half a day and $600 parts.
Mate, we have the general public on the price of parts though, hoist head for my helicopter $198k USD. GET ON.

pauldw, Jul 9, 4:52pm
You should check your owner's manual. If it's like mine it separates simple oil changes from servicing that should be done by the dealer eg check valve clearances.

Did a job for a guy who runs a small fleet of choppers last year. Mental note to self: Charge em more next time.
